We are looking for adult volunteers – but before going on, if you are aged 12-18, and you are checking out this website because you saw the notice in the West Briton, you can just turn up at Fishstrand Quay on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. There is no cost. It’s a good idea to phone first – see contacts.
We are looking for adult volunteers who enjoy sailing – that’s important to begin with – and who have other skills that may help us. In particular:
– If you have a yachtmaster certificate;
– If you have marketing experience;
– If you have other experience in sailing, website management, promotion, computer-based admin, maintenance work, etc.
Although there’s plenty to do, we don’t have a specific task, or a job description waiting for you – it’s more laid-back than that! It makes sense to see first that this is something that interests you, get to know the ship a bit, go on one or two trips, and you’ll probably get a feel for what needs to be done. It is important that you enjoy sailing and want to be involved with “Hardiesse”, because we want you get something out of it too.
We carry out CRB/DBS checks through the RYA at no cost to you, but there’s no need to do this on your first visit.
The dinghy will be waiting at Fishstrand Quay steps at 7pm on Wednesdays in summer. “Hardiesse” is on a deep-water mooring in the middle of the harbour so the dinghy gets us out to the ship. Although we only show landline numbers on the website, you might like to call beforehand to get the mobile number of Chris (or whoever else will be operating the dinghy) so we stay in touch.
Give us a call – contacts.
