The Falmouth Sail Training Ship “Hardiesse”
The Falmouth Sail Training Ship “Hardiesse” exists to promote sailing for young people aged 12 upwards, and through hands-on experience of sailing, to encourage the development of knowledge, teamwork and leadership, and in accordance with Royal Yachting Association guidelines for youth training.
The Falmouth Sail Training Ship itself is a company and a UK registered charity based in Falmouth, Cornwall, and it operates the ship “Hardiesse”.
The “Hardiesse” is operated with the support of the local community, and we hope to serve our community best by encouraging young people, particularly from Falmouth and elsewhere in Cornwall, to develop their interest in sailing and the sea.
We do not offer commercial sailing holidays – this would not be in accordance with our objectives. We are a non-profit organisation offering sailing at low cost to young people.
The Hardiesse is registered number 362405 at the British Register under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. She is certified as a small commercial sailing vessel by the YDSA and is subject to an annual inspection by a marine surveyor. The ship is also a Recognised Teaching Establishment under the rules of the RYA (Royal yachting Association) and subject to an annual inspection by the RYA. Insurance policies are maintained for marine risks and for the equipment used on board and during winter maintenance.
Our Objectives
To provide sail training opportunities for young people without discrimination in accordance with Royal Yachting Association guidelines for youth training. The aim is to enable young people to obtain Royal Yachting Association qualifications and to acquire strength of character, experience of leadership and knowledge of the sea and seamanship.
The exact wording and full Memorandum and Objects of Association can be seen at Companies House or at the Charity Commission.
