What to bring

Lifejackets

We provide lifejackets and clip-on safety lanyards. The lifejackets are auto-inflating and are inspected annually. Safety lanyards are worn to climb the rigging, or if the sea conditions make it prudent to "clip on".

For Day Sailing:

It is always colder at sea than on land. On the hottest of days when landlubbers are sunbathing on the beaches, you may still notice sailing people coming ashore dressed up in lots of gear. Make sure you bring the following:

  • Waterproof (doubly important as it is also windproof and so keeps you warm).
  • Extra jumper. Wool and polyester fleece is much better than anything cotton.
  • Strong Sun protection, and maybe lipsyl.
  • Sandwiches (the skipper likes cake, by the way).
  • If you think you might be seasick, seasick pills. Ask the Chemist, and read what it says on the packet.

For Longer Trips, Sleeping on board, etc:

All the above, plus:

  • Spare clothing - depending on how many days the trip is.
  • Sleeping bag. The bunks all have mattresses.
  • Personal hygiene stuff (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, towel, etc)

Tell the Skipper… About any medical conditions, if you’re asthmatic, diabetic, allergic to penicillin - whatever it is, if it might affect your safety or wellbeing (or that of others) you must talk to the skipper. A phone call before the trip is best. If in doubt, tell the skipper anyway.
